Direct From Google: How To Build A Quality Website In 2012

I hear a lot of webmasters complain day in and day out about all the changes that Google constantly makes to its algorithm and how they affect our search engine placement.

Let me break it to you: it’s not all about what Google has done and will do to update its algorithm.

It’s about what you SHOULD BE doing.

Are you heading for burnout is a great on post on a topic I know I have to keep in check. It’s all to easy to spend too much time working on the stuff we love doing.

Duplicate Ccontent always raises a few eyebrows. This article goes deep into the SEO rabbit hole.

Great article explaining the latest PR update

While this event may not carry significance for non-SEO types, for affiliates, webmasters or internet marketers vested in the process of percolating new sites (to develop more on page authority), spawning PageRank on their new domains invariably augments long-term SEO efforts (by creating a higher degree of referential integrity)  for internal pages to circulate link weight, which in turn can produce rankings

End of Cyber-squatting? The gTLD Advantage
http://www.circleid.com/posts/20110619_end_of_cyber_squatting_the_gtld_advantage/

In a post gTLD market, say in case of dot rice, why would some squatters register ibm.rice or google.rice? They may fancy ben.rice or uncle.rice to encroach on Uncle Ben’s rice brand. Dictionary based brand names like united.rice or national.rice will have their own issues. What would squatters achieve? What would holders and URDP do? In case of dot inn, some may try for holiday.inn or in case of dot airline, it would easy to try delta.airline or gluf.airline. Here the bigger question is why invest $500K and months to acquire dot airline? Where is the real monetization of such a root in the first place?

What It Really Means to Flip a Website

So many things have been lumped into the topic of “website flipping” that actually don’t belong there. Much of it has polluted the marketplaces, and that is largely due to the amount of guru products on the subject leading people astray.

Mon dieu! Zese clouds are magnifique!

We’ve said it before: if you’re not familiar with the particulars of a language, do not attempt to register domains in it.

Such is the case with IDN domains, where a lot of rookie domainers simply registered compounds by simply flipping a dictionary.

So, I need a volunteer.

Flippa Fees

I'm often asked about Flippa's fee structure and in particular, which of the add-ons I recommend and when to use them.

The Basic Pricing Structure

Every new listing incurs the $19 fee. There's been so much debate online about the fee, usually from the sellers in the shallow end of flippa (sub $300 sites). My take on it is that it does discourage a lot of the junk stuff that would otherwise flood the marketplace.

The success fee is a flat 5% of the final sale

Inspiration is

BULLSHIT

Why?

Because it's great at the time, but it doesn't last.

It's perspiration that gets things done and pays the rent.

That's what life is for most of us, scraping enough together every month, to pay the rent.

It's hard to stay inspired when you're in the daily grind.

Inspiration works for new ideas. It works when someone shows you a new way of doing things, but it doesn't pay the bills. Work does that.

Octopus.com, #46 in the top 100 list of oldest registered .com domains, has just been listed for sale at Flippa.

According to The Next Web’s list of the hundred oldest domain names, Octopus.com was registered on November 17, 1986, the same day as Adobe.com, Amd.com, Das.com, Data-io.com, Portal.com, and Teltone.com.

The auction, which has an oddly low reserve price of only $20,000, ends March 5, 2011.

The domain name that got away
http://www2.timesdispatch.com/business/2011/jan/24/TDMBIZ09-the-domain-name-that-got-away-ar-793428/

Here are two phrases for tech-savvy businesses to add to their lexicon: domain name “drop-catching” and “getting in on the drop.”

Have you ever wanted to acquire a domain name someone else has registered?

“What Does a Backlink Look Like?”

When I giggled, I wasn’t laughing at him, moreso I was laughing at myself for my ignorance in not realizing this might be a concern.

After all if you are just learning what something is for your first time, and have never seen one, then YOU PROBABLY don’t know what one looks like – and would like to know!
